National liftshare Day aims to raise the profile of carsharing and encourage and enable more people give it a try.

NLSD is a vital marketing tool in making any car share scheme a success. Car sharing helps you in the following areas:

This year we are going to make it easier than ever get involved with NLSD so you'd be crazy not to take advantage.

Here's HOW companies, councils and organisations can get involved

If you have a car share scheme National liftshare Day is the perfect opportunity to promote it either internally to staff and colleagues, or externally to the general public. We've developed a number of tools to assist you in promoting your carsharing scheme to your target audience which can be found on your Monitoring Pages.

  1. Check out the Marketing Toolkit which is available from your Monitoring Pages and get some inspiration.
  2. Keep an eye on the newsletters and www.nationalliftshareday.org over the next few months for more information.
  3. Contact your Client Account Manager on 08700 780225 for ideas and support.

If you don't have your own carshare scheme but would like to encourage carsharing between your colleagues and customers why not try some of the steps below.

  1. Set up a prominent link to www.liftshare.com on your website, enabling people in your community to register their journeys free of charge.
  2. Promote carsharing using our Email to colleagues and encourage them make 9th June the day they try carsharing.
  3. You could try and get an article in your in-house magazine or company newsletter. We've put together a draft article which might help inspire you.
  4. Generate some positive PR for your company by shouting about the fact you are encouraging car sharing. We've put together a template Press Release which you can use as a basis.
  5. Set up a carshare scheme for your organisation or community by visiting www.liftsharesolutions.com.

Here's HOW individuals can get involved

  1. Register your journey and find someone to travel with.
  2. Tell your friends / family and colleagues about liftshare with our Tell a Friend facility.
  3. Promote carsharing using our NLSD posters and leaflets which can be downloaded for free.
  4. Encourage your employer to do more to promote carsharing in the work place. They can find out more information about our services from www.liftsharesolutions.com.

Events

  • Loughborough Endowed Schools will be promoting National liftshare Day to all parents on 9th June with posters going up around the car park and school, electronic mailing to all parents, t-shirts and display stand. Volunteer parents will also be helping to co-ordinate the school run thereby reducing the number of vehicles needed to get pupils to school on the day.

  • Fife Council are encouraging all employees to give car sharing a try on NLSD. Priority parking already given to carsharers at Fife Council but in addition those who sign up between 1st - 9th June will also be awarded vouchers. Existing members of the Fife Council Carshare scheme aren't being left out either and those who share on 9th will also be entitled to the vouchers.

    Fife Council will be sending out National liftshare Day posters to NHS Fife and 100 local businesses to raise awareness and to make a real difference to the number of cars on the road on 9th June.

  • Tripshare Fife will be running a regional radio campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of car sharing.

  • UKAEA Culham will be will be exhibiting their CulhamCarshare.com scheme to employees in advance of NLSD. Posters will also be going up around the building and pens and mini torches have been produced as gifts to existing members and as incentives for others to sign up.

  • Croxley Green Business Park will mark National Liftshare Day by launching its new car-sharing scheme. The car-share scheme is part of a wider set of initiatives co-ordinated by transport consultants Glanville to reduce the impact of congestion and pollution in the area and build Croxley Green's image of being the region’s ‘greenest’ business park.

  • Chelmsford Borough Council have only just started their liftshare scheme and they will be using National liftshare Day as a way of gaining momentum before the official launch.  They have been distributing posters and have added a link to their staff intranet site.

  • Sky employees at Osterley, Livingston and Dunfermline who car share on National Liftshare Day - Monday 9th June will be offered a free car valet.  Those who are fully signed up members of a Sky BUDi team and who car share on 9th June will be eligible.  There will be lots of very clean cars around Sky buildings on 9th June!

  • Broadland Business Park in Norfolk are holding an informal coffee morning in on Friday 6th June for all staff on the park.  National liftshare Day posters are being sent round to all businesses on the park.  All staff who complete a registration form will receive a free coffee as well as finding themselves a car share match for 9th June.  

  • CalderdaleCarshare is the website for the district of Calderdale, administered jointly by Calderdale Council and HBOS plc, two of the district's largest employers. This year, I am promoting the carshare scheme to Council staff and the general public through a poster campaign (materials kindly supplied by yourselves), offering entry into a prize draw for every person who registers a journey at CalderdaleCarshare on or before 10th June. The prize on offer is a fabulous Garmin StreetPilot sat nav system!

    People are encouraged to either sign up online at any time, or come along to our dedicated sign-up stall in central Halifax on NLSD itself, where we will be giving a demonstration of the website There will be the chance to register a journey and pick up information about carsharing in Calderdale as well as a few freebies!

  • Aberdeenshire Council is promoting Car Share Aberdeenshire across Aberdeenshire during June.  We are distributing 20,000 branded air fresheners, 20,000 branded beer mats, 400 posters at Council offices, GP practices, Libraries, Community Centres and sent letters and posters to the 200 largest employers in Aberdeenshire.

    We've also placed a half page advert in the Community Safety Handbook distributed to 90,000 homes and 5,000 workplaces.  We'll be using our intranet to highlight a pair of car share champions to staff for Liftshare Day.  Also doing free coffee sign ups giving a branded mug or stress toy to those who sign up. 

    Our scheme now has a Guaranteed Lift Home for staff included.  We are also preparing to add Car Share reserved bays in our car park at Council's HQ.

    We will also be doing a press release.

  • For National Lift Share Day Dundee University have distributed posters that you kindly made up for us. So far over 20 have been put up around campus (still more to put up). Distributed leaflets to reception areas in a variety of buildings and also in main library. Put notice on next weeks "Hermes" our electronic noticeboard for all students and staff. Will be sending out block e-mails to nearly 5000 staff. An article will appear in our staff e-contact mag. We are also conducting a green travel survey at the moment with several questions about lift sharing and what would encourage you to join.

  • Leeds City Council, with the help of the radio station Radio Aire will be broadcasting some carsharing journeys the week before National Liftshare day. Leeds City Council have also managed to advertise some journeys on the BBC screen in Millennium Square, which will also be shown the week before National liftshare day so the word gets out.

  • Carshare Devon will be asking people to register between 7th-14th June to be entered into a registration draw to win £100. For current members they can enter a competition over the same time period to 'tell a friend' about Carshare Devon for the chance to win Beautiful Days Festival tickets.

  • Once again ExxonMobil at Mossmorran will be participating in the National Liftshare Day on Monday 9th June. £10 per car less in the car park will be donated to a local school which requires specialised transport for children to attend Music Therapy classes.

  • TripshareSestran will be running ads on Radio Forth (the main radio station in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife) promoting car sharing. Raffles at Falkirk Council, Fife Health Board, Lothian Health Board, Edinburgh Park for people signing up around that day with prizes donated by Kwik Fit of a free service plus 'go green' service a general press release to mark the day will be going out to all local papers as well as national (Scottish) papers and media.

  • West Sussex County Council will be marking NLSD. Commuters who register to car share during the month will be entered into a free prize draw to win £50 of gift vouchers from a store of their choice.

  • Houghton Regis parish councilors have been circulated with a poster for National Liftshare Day on 9th June, it is also being advertised in the Town Crier newsletter which is currently going out.

  • The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council will be car sharing on Friday June 6 when he takes a colleague to an event in the Mill Hill area of town.
